Esta nueva serie de fotografías, esculturas e instalaciones cuestionan la manera en la cual construimos el mundo y el entorno violento en el cual se le ha dado forma.

Laberintos y otras formas geométricas son una manera de describir la historia de la civilización. Representan los cálculos matemáticos que están a la base de todas las estructuras de poder y orden en nuestro pasado, presente y futuro y a la vez sirven como metáfora del viaje de la humanidad a través de la historia, mitología, arquitectura, paisaje y todo comportamiento humano.

Todas las creaciones se caracterizan por una atención casi fetichista hacia el material, la forma y la estructura.

Castillo siente una atracción natural a hacer esculturas de arena porque es una manera primitiva de generar formas efímeras y escenarios artificiales. A través de la arena puede crear un mundo perfectamente “falso”.

Básicamente, todas las formas sociales y urbanas ideales son un poco deshumanizantes; la naturaleza y el paisaje aparecen como testigo mudo de las acciones del hombre. La experiencia contemporánea es el resultado de guerras sangrientas, mitología, historia, religión, estructuras imperiales y metropolitanas, la construcción y la destrucción, la realidad y la ficción. Todos estos factores, mientras contribuyen a la composición de cada una de estas obras, son destinadas, al mismo tiempo, a desmoronarse.

This new series of photographs, sculptures and installations question the manner in which the World is constructed and the violent environment in which it has been shaped.

Labyrinths and other geometric forms are a means of describing civilization’s history. They represent the mathematical calculations that are underlying in all the structures of power and order, past, present and future and serve as a metaphor for humanity’s journey through history, mythology, architecture, landscape and all human behavior.

Everything is created with a fetish like attention to material, shape and structure. Castillo has a natural connection to sculpting sand because it is a primitive manner of generating ephemeral forms and unnatural scenarios. With sand she attempts to build a perfect “fake” world.

Ultimately, all ideal urban and social forms are a little dehumanizing; nature and landscape appear as a mute witness to man’s actions. Contemporary experience is the result of bloody wars, history, mythology, religion, imperial and metropolitan structures, construction and deconstruction, reality and fiction. All of these factors come together in the composition of everyone of the works, and they fall apart too.
